Sonia works in the Social Care sector with children and young people and has done for many years. It has been a desire of Sonia’s to do a tandem parachute/skydive, but the problem was not falling out of a plane, but which charity to choose. Sonia chose Sickle Cell Care Manchester for the following reasons… despite not actually have anyone in her family that suffers from (lives with) Sickle Cell. However, on hearing more about this condition and how the numerous symptoms affect people from our communities, it helped her to decide to do the Skydive to raise funds for such a worthy cause, in order to help these individuals to access the help and support they need to live a healthy life. Sonia eventually completed my Skydive on 2.5.2019 and not jumping at 11,000ft as originally planned but 15,000ft raising £1630.00. Sonia will continue to support this worthy cause.
Our aim is to ensure that people of all ethnicities who are living with this condition are informed about the condition and are aware of the support and services available to them. We wish to highlight some practical measures to help and support people living with the SCD; also to work alongside other charitable bodies and organisations to help improve the lives of people living with the condition as much as possible.
